What is Time...When is
The Time?
In a moment of time, too short for us to measure, the old year (2009) was gone and the new
year (2010) was here. Time consists of three components. There is the past and the
present; sandwiched between is the present or "now." We cannot measure the past nor the
future. The past has always been and the future will always be. Combined with the present
they comprise forever. The past and the future are too long to be measured and the present
is too brief to be measured, the past and the future are infinite, whereas the present is
infinitesimal or incalculably minute. The very wise Solomon tells us, "
To everything there is
a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven
." In the next seven verses he lists
28 things for which there is a time. What he did not mention is the time for salvation (when
one accepts Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior). To find the time for this we go to 2nd
Corinthians 6:2, "...
behold, now is-the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation."

Since "now" is incalculably minute (before you can say the word it becomes the past and
you can only be thankful if God has granted you another "now"), we should be impressed by
the urgency of committing ourselves to Christ. For further emphasis we only need to
consider Proverbs 27:1, "
Boast not thyself of tomorrow..." and James 4:13-15, "Go to now,
ye that say, today or tomorrow we will go into such a city, and continue there a year, and
buy and sell and get gain; whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what
time is your life? It is even as a vapor.that appearethfor a little while, and then vanisheth
away. For that ye ought to say, if the Lord will, we shall live, and do this, or that
(Emphasis on time added.)

When you move from the present you will be forever in the future. What you do now
regarding your relationship to Christ will determine where and how you spend the future. In
conclusion, if we only plan to commit our lives to Jesus Christ sometime later God says we
are fools (see Luke 12:13-14).
